PURPOSE OF THE POSITION 
The superintendent for the grading division directs all field personnel on a given project, takes 
responsibility for all safety and production goals for the project. 
RESPONSIBILITIES 
To guide all field activities on projects while adhering to all company policies and OSHA / 
MSHA regulations, while meeting all safety, quality and schedule goals. 
Main Activities 
 Build a team atmosphere to allow all foreman and operators to thrive and succeed. 
 Manage several foreman / lead men on separate projects and provide them with the tools, 
equipment and technical support they need 
 Manage several projects in varying locations throughout the Southeast. 
o Attend meetings with the client 
o Attend pre-con meetings 
o Work with Project Engineer to ensure materials are submitted, approved and 
delivered on time 
o Work with Project Engineer to ensure layout is correct and performed ahead of 
time 
o Schedule equipment delivery 
o Schedule meetings with engineers and owners 
o Maintain all erosion control inspections and ensure compliance 
o Communicate scope, details and schedule with the foremen 
o Random on site safety inspections 
o Management production requirements as set forth in the project schedules 
o Assist in training new hires and existing personnel 
o Assist in recruiting and screening new employees 
o Assist in safety meetings 
o Communicate project billing information to the office for timely invoicing 
o Communicate project time sheets to the office for payroll 
o Maintain a project file of fuel sheets, load count sheets, hourly work, change order 
requests, and all applicable materials lists 
o Schedule and order necessary construction materials 
 Maintain MSHA compliance on projects 
o Check the on site MSHA binder for compliance 
o Ensure foremen / lead men have all MSHA paperwork, organized and up to date 
o Random inspections of vehicles, equipment and projects 
o Attend all required MSHA training

 Maintain all expense reports credit card receipts, coded correctly and turned in weekly 
 Maintain a professional appearance at all times 
 Maintain company vehicle 
Sub Activities 
 Operate all heavy equipment in a safe and efficient way according to all relevant 
legislation, policies and procedures when needed. 
 Ensure heavy equipment is safely and securely stored 
 Participate in routine maintenance when needed 
 Practice workplace safety 
 Maintain inventory 
 Complete daily fuel, load count and hour logs 
 General daily preventative equipment maintenance 
 Maintain current tool inventory in maintenance trailer / truck 
 Maintain fuel tank level and inventory, communicate to management for deliveries 
 Install and maintain silt fence. 
 Maintain all erosion control devices and report deficiencies 
 Guide and lead the crew in all daily activities 
 Perform minor emergency repairs on equipment as needed 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES 
Knowledge 
The incumbent must have proficient knowledge in the following areas or be willing to learn: 
 Equipment operation and maintenance

 MSHA regulations 
 OSHA regulations 
 Site specific hazards and conditions 
 General site preparation techniques and procedures 
 Knowledge of operation of front end loaders, dozers, graders, compactors, and other 
pieces of heavy equipment 
 Knowledge of equipment maintenance and storage 
 Knowledge of road construction and maintenance techniques 
 Knowledge of workplace safety requirements and procedures 
 Knowledge of equipment cleaning standards and procedures
