Founding Robotics Engineer (Hardware)
Quick Apply
TRC Talent Solutions is partnering with a highly disruptive, Atlanta Ventures-backed startup to secure their founding engineering team.
The Client:
This seed-stage company currently operates the largest fleet of autonomous robotic security quadrupeds in the United States. They are moving fast, scaling aggressively, and making a massive pivot: they are bringing their hardware manufacturing entirely in-house. This is a ground-floor opportunity to join a fast-moving, heavily backed robotics startup and build a physical product from the absolute ground up.
Founding Robotics Engineer (Hardware)
Location: South Downtown Atlanta, GA (5 Days Onsite - Atlanta Tech Village Sylvan)
Compensation: $80,000 - $120,000 / yr + 0.15% - 0.25% Equity
The Reality:
Our client is migrating away from off-the-shelf platforms and bringing robotic manufacturing in-house. They do not need a theoretical researcher; they need a hands-on mechanical and hardware builder to design, prototype, and manufacture physical platforms at scale. You will be turning wrenches, living in CAD, and getting your hands dirty to build a US-made robotic fleet.
The Mission:
Lead the hardware development of an in-house 4-wheeled security rover, and eventually, architect a custom, fully integrated quadruped.
Immediate Objectives:
Drive the end-to-end design, build, and testing of a 4-wheeled security rover engineered specifically for unstructured industrial sites.
Transition rapid prototypes into rugged, manufacturable, and easily maintainable hardware deployable at scale.
Design, fabricate, and build custom payloads and automated "dog houses" (charging/deployment stations) for the existing robotic fleet.
Technical Stack & Requirements:
Mechanical: Deep CAD expertise. You must have a proven track record of taking complex projects from raw concept to a working, physical product.
Mechatronics: Heavy experience integrating cameras, motors, and sensors with embedded systems (expert-level wiring, soldering, and assembly).
Bonus Multipliers: PCB design (schematic capture, layout), complex hardware manufacturing experience, and embedded software exposure (Raspberry Pi/Arduino).
The Mindset:
You are not confined to a pristine research lab. You build for real-world, gritty deployments and take ultimate, uncompromising ownership of the physical product from the machine shop to the field.
5 Questions You Should Ask During the Interview
Here are 5 questions we think you could ask during your interview. Use them as a guide to help you write your own questions.
Remember: Always have at least 5 questions prepared for the interview. If you do not, you run the risk of looking unprepared.
What does success look like in this role, and how is it measured?
Why ask this? You want to ensure you have a clear understanding of expectations before accepting the role. Knowing how success is measured helps you hit the ground running and avoid surprises about performance evaluations. It also signals to the employer that you're results-driven.
Can you describe the team dynamic and the company culture?
Why ask this? Skills and experience matter, but if the work environment isn’t a good fit, you won’t be happy or productive. This question helps you gauge whether the company values collaboration, how teams interact, and whether the culture aligns with your work style and values.
What are the biggest challenges facing the person in this role right now?
Why ask this? Every job has challenges, and it’s better to know them upfront. This helps you assess whether the role is a good fit for your strengths and whether the company is realistic about its expectations. If they hesitate to answer, it could be a red flag.
How does the company support work-life balance and employee well-being??
Why ask this? Burnout is real, and some companies expect employees to sacrifice personal time for the job. By asking this, you’ll get a sense of how they value work-life balance, flexibility, and well-being—things that are crucial for job satisfaction and long-term success.
These questions help you make an informed decision while also showing your professionalism and strategic thinking!
