Summary
The Buyer is responsible for sourcing and purchasing machinery, equipment, tools, parts, materials, supplies, and services required to support daily business operations. This role ensures the organization receives high-quality goods and services at the most competitive cost while maintaining appropriate inventory levels and supplier performance standards. The Buyer works closely with internal departments and external vendors to ensure timely delivery, contract compliance, and operational efficiency.
Job Responsibilities:
Source, evaluate, and select suppliers based on price, quality, availability, service, and reliability.
Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts to secure the best overall value for the organization.
Review purchase requisitions and approve purchase orders in accordance with company policies and budget guidelines.
Solicit and analyze bid proposals to support cost-effective purchasing decisions.
Monitor supplier performance and resolve issues related to delayed, defective, or unacceptable goods and services.
Collaborate with internal teams to understand supply needs and ensure timely procurement of materials and services.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with vendors and suppliers to ensure consistent supply chain support.
Ensure compliance with contractual agreements, company policies, and applicable purchasing regulations.
Manage and support just-in-time (JIT) inventory practices to optimize storage and reduce waste.
Support contract administration, including renewals, revisions, and performance evaluations.
Provide guidance to staff on procurement processes, vendor negotiations, and issue resolution.
Attend industry trade shows and vendor meetings to identify new products, services, and sourcing opportunities.
Maintain accurate records of purchases, pricing, contracts, and supplier communications.
Skills & Qualifications:
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent negotiation and vendor management abilities.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
High attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
Ability to analyze financial data, pricing proposals, and supplier performance metrics.
Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Knowledge of supply chain management principles and procurement best practices.
Understanding of purchasing laws, regulations, and contract compliance requirements.
Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal stakeholders and external vendors.
Basic mentoring or coaching skills to support team members when needed.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and procurement systems or ERP platforms.
Education & Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or related field required.
5–7 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or finance-related roles required.
Will consider:
Associate degree with 9+ years of relevant experience, OR
Master’s degree with 3+ years of experience.
Internship experience may be considered toward qualifications.
