This position is responsible for managing and directing the department of Inpatient Nursing. They ensure the efficient utilization of available resources to meet productivity and financial goals. The Nurse Manager works collaboratively and effectively with other administrative personnel, physicians and caregivers throughout the Ministry to enhance communication, share pertinent data and improve processes across the continuum. The Nurse Manager ensures that the unit has appropriate managerial oversight on all shifts and is appropriately staffed to cover patient care needs. The Nurse Manager is proactively involved in patient flow and bed management issues in collaboration with the Access Center and the Nursing unit. They are leaders who inspire a shared vision, demonstrating the value of change and presenting it to caregivers with enthusiasm. The Nurse Manager models the way by setting professional standards, having a positive attitude, and engaging caregivers to become leaders of change. They challenge the current process and enable others to promote change by providing support, mentorship, and guidance to those who provide direct patient care. The Nurse Manager encourages the heart of caregivers by providing both public and private recognition and connecting on a personal level with those that they serve. The Nurse Manager holds direct and indirect care providers accountable for their professional responsibilities and adherence to regulatory guidelines. The Nurse Manager performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with the Mission, Values and Mercy Service Standards.

Position Details:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: BSN preferred. Internal transfer applicants without Bachelor's degree may be considered if the applicant is willing to actively pursue a Baccalaureate degree once hired into position.
  • Actively pursuing a Baccalaureate degree is defined as being enrolled in a Baccalaureate program and completing at least one course per semester.
  • Experience: 3 or more years of Nursing.
  • License(s): Current license in applicable State of practice for Registered Nurse.
  • Certification(s): Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association or successful completion of course within 30 days of hire.

One or more of the certifications below may be required based on the position/unit hired to, or acquisition of certification within department required timeframe:

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  •  ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • CPHON (Certified Pediatric/Hematology/Oncology Nurses)
  • OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • PEARS (Pediatric Assessment Recognition and Stabilization)
  • S.T.A.B.L.E. (Sugar, Temperature, Airway, Blood Pressure, Lab Work, And Emotional Support) Six Assessment & Care Modules
  • C-EFM (Fetal Monitor Certification)
  • Other unit-specific certifications as required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education: Master's degree in Nursing or a healthcare related field. 
  • Experience: Management experience.
  • Certification(s): Certification in a specialty of Nursing preferred.

  • Demonstrates clinical competence in patient care delivery.
  • Possesses the ability to assess data and assist personnel in providing appropriate level of care.
  • Performs responsibilities in the spirit of the Mercy Mission and Charism.
  • Makes decisions and determines actions using the Mercy Values as a guide.
  • May be required to work differing schedules, shifts, days of the week, or work frequency according to patient care needs. 
  • Interacting with other Departments in a positive customer service manner, assuring that the customers experience will be one of courtesy, compassion, clinical excellence and outstanding service in a safe efficient manner.
