- The position offers a starting salary of $52,500. A higher starting salary may be considered based on the candidate's education, experience, and overall qualifications.The purpose of this position is to assist with the daily operations of the Circuit Court and the Judges’ Chambers. This is accomplished by administering the judges’ scheduling; complying with office procedures and policies; providing first line of contact with outside agencies regarding court matters; maintaining strong knowledge of both policies and law; preparing and finalizing court sessions; and handling numerous confidential documents.
Provides administration for the office by handling inquiries from attorneys specific to court matters; sorting and determining document priorities; handling orders and legal documents.
Provides assistance in the Courtroom as needed as a court reporter; fulfilling the duties to record, and when necessary, transcribe trials.
The JA I position also serves as the back-up Danville – Pittsylvania Treatment Court Coordinator. This specialty docket is to be handled with confidentiality and professionalism.
This position shall be supervised by the presiding Judge(s) of the Circuit Court of Danville and the Judicial Assistant II, who serves as the office manager. Comprehensive knowledge of legal office practices, procedures, and equipment.
Thorough knowledge of court functions, organization, and policies.
Thorough knowledge of legal terminology, spelling, and grammar.
Ability to do legal research and knowledge of legal procedures.
Ability to establish harmonious working relationships with others.
Ability to organize and perform work independently.
Proficient typing skills to record courtroom proceedings accurately.Education and experience related to bachelor’s degree and considerable legal or related experience preferred. Active commission as notary preferred.
