Veterinary Hospital Manager
Quick Apply
Nothing but possibility here - come build on something exceptional.
Companion Pet Hospital in South Philly is looking for a Hospital Manager who's ready to step into a practice full of momentum - and help take it even further. With an actively growing DVM & support staff team, a expanding facility, and a staff that's eager and capable of more, the foundation is already strong. What's needed now is the right leader to build on it.
What makes this role worth your time:
We're the only Fear Free Certified practice in Philadelphia, a Cat-Friendly Practice by the AAFP, and a 2025 Philly Favorites award winner. With more doctors joining the team and a 6,000 sq. ft. facility with room to expand, there's real momentum here - and a genuine need for a strong operational leader to help drive that growth.
What you'll actually be doing:
- Owning the day-to-day operations of a busy, full-service hospital - workflow, scheduling, compliance (OSHA, DEA, VMB), inventory, and facilities
- Managing the financials: budgets, payroll, performance metrics, and identifying opportunities to grow revenue and efficiency
- Identify and act on opportunities to improve operational efficiency across the hospital
- Leading and developing a growing team across CSR, technician, and support roles - hiring, training, and building a culture of accountability and growth
- Partnering closely with the Medical Director to co-lead the hospital and align on long-term strategy, staffing, and service expansion
- Empowering team leads - your tech leads and CSR lead are ready to step up, and you'll be the one to build the structure and trust that makes that happen
- Supporting a structured, tiered training program and helping staff find real pathways for advancement
- Overseeing client experience, community presence, and marketing initiatives in one of Philadelphia's most vibrant urban neighborhoods
Who you are:
You're an experienced people-leader who enjoys developing and coaching others - you know how to identify strong team leads, delegate with intention, and build the kind of structure that lets people grow into their roles. You're a change-maker, but a grounded one: you can think strategically about the big picture and translate that vision into practical, day-to-day execution.
You don't need to come from veterinary medicine, but veterinary experience is strongly preferred - and candidates who bring it will stand out. 3 or more years of leadership experience is required.
Schedule, benefits and compensation**: This is a full-time, salaried position and schedule flexibility is required based on business needs.
- Compensation: $85,000 - $95,000 annual base salary*
- Bi-annual bonus opportunities: Based on hospital performance
- Hiring bonus package: Up to $2000 based on experience and credentials
- CE allowance: up to $1,000 based on credentials
- Health package: Medical, dental, and vision insurance
- Life insurance and disability
- Employee Assistance Program
- 401k with match
- Paid time off in accordance with site policy and applicable law
- Uniform allowance
About Companion Pet Hospital:
Since 2009, we've built a diverse, passionate group of people who genuinely care about the medicine and about each other - and it shows in everything we do. We're deeply rooted in the Pennsport neighborhood of South Philadelphia, and the community we serve has been with us every step of the way.
We're a full-service small animal practice, Fear Free Certified and Cat-Friendly, with a busy surgical and dental caseload and a full range of services including wellness, diagnostics, nutrition, and same-day urgent care.
The foundation is strong. The best is still ahead.

5 Questions You Should Ask During the Interview
Here are 5 questions we think you could ask during your interview. Use them as a guide to help you write your own questions.
Remember: Always have at least 5 questions prepared for the interview. If you do not, you run the risk of looking unprepared.
What does success look like in this role, and how is it measured?
Why ask this? You want to ensure you have a clear understanding of expectations before accepting the role. Knowing how success is measured helps you hit the ground running and avoid surprises about performance evaluations. It also signals to the employer that you're results-driven.
Can you describe the team dynamic and the company culture?
Why ask this? Skills and experience matter, but if the work environment isn’t a good fit, you won’t be happy or productive. This question helps you gauge whether the company values collaboration, how teams interact, and whether the culture aligns with your work style and values.
What are the biggest challenges facing the person in this role right now?
Why ask this? Every job has challenges, and it’s better to know them upfront. This helps you assess whether the role is a good fit for your strengths and whether the company is realistic about its expectations. If they hesitate to answer, it could be a red flag.
How does the company support work-life balance and employee well-being??
Why ask this? Burnout is real, and some companies expect employees to sacrifice personal time for the job. By asking this, you’ll get a sense of how they value work-life balance, flexibility, and well-being—things that are crucial for job satisfaction and long-term success.
These questions help you make an informed decision while also showing your professionalism and strategic thinking!
