- This role is part of a high-impact Facilities Engineering team responsible for improving the reliability, safety, and performance of critical infrastructure across American Airlines’ terminals, base, and line maintenance operations, while acting as a critical engineering support function for facility maintenance within the Tech Ops organization.
- You will work on complex, real-world systems including baggage handling systems, jet bridges, power distribution, HVAC, fire suppression, life safety systems, and more, helping drive operational improvements across one of the largest airline networks in the world.
- This position is focused on system ownership, problem solving, and execution in a fast-paced operational environment.
- You’ll operate with a high level of ownership, working in ambiguous environments where structure doesn’t always exist and help build it as you go.
- You’ll influence outcomes across the organization by partnering with vendors and stakeholders, balancing field execution with leadership communication while prioritizing practical, high-impact solutions.
What you'll do
- Interprets specifications, blueprints, manufactures information and distills that into useable documentation that can be used by a repair technician
- Works with many different entities including but not limited to Corporate Real Estate, Aircraft Maintenance, Component Maintenance, Ground Support Engineering and Customer Experience
- May work with stakeholders to document their needs and analyze the justification based on business needs
- Recommends measures to improve production methods, performance, and the quality of the product, and may go so far as to suggest changes in working conditions to increase efficiency or safety
- Determines procedures, studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency of the work
- Prepares individual or composite reports
- Must be willing to undergo comprehensive background and fingerprint checks to satisfy security requirements
- Must be willing to take a pre-employment drug test
- Up to 35% travel to other locations
All you'll need for success
Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical. Industrial, Systems, Electrical, or similar Engineering disciplines
- 4 years experience managing, coordinating, and completing projects
Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
- Master's Degree in Engineering
- Experience in Microsoft VISIO
Skills, Licenses & Certifications
- Excellent analytical, organization and planning skills
- Familiarity with basic CAD
- General knowledge of detailed drawings, bill of materials, standards and processing
- Flexible and capable of adapting to constant change
- Ability to document projects quickly and clearly
- Ability to reference code, legal guidelines, environmental directives and regulatory information as required
- Understands and can quickly locate appropriate references across industries like manufacturing and safety standards, construction, or other areas most suitable to the job at hand
- Ability to develop and deliver finished, dimensioned prints or electronic models to qualified technicians & revise as needed to document as-built structures
- Ability to successfully work multiple projects simultaneously
- Knowledgeable in the compliance requirements of the pertinent codes, regulations, and standards
- Must work well under deadlines and high volume stress
- Ability to prioritize tasks
- Must work with minimum supervision
- Understanding of automated control systems and communication infrastructure.
- Comfortable working with a wide range of engineering software.
- Comfortable working with and understanding complex new & legacy machinery.
- Comfortable working with and understanding Ground Support Equipment for Aircraft Maintenance
- Comfortable working with and understanding aircraft power requirements, interpreting aircraft facility planning documents.
- Systems integration tasks. Understanding of code especially NFPA 70, NFPA 79, NFPA 70 E
- A good understanding of Electrical Safety & Hazardous Area Electrical Requirements. Class & Division Concepts.
- Aircraft Hangar requirements as it pertains to electrical code requirements.
