Position Summary:

We are seeking a Business Development Manager to lead the commercial growth of an innovative biological crop technology portfolio throughout the United States.

This individual will be responsible for identifying new business opportunities, developing strategic customer relationships, expanding distribution channels, and driving commercial adoption across targeted agricultural markets. Success in this position requires a consultative sales approach, technical curiosity, and the ability to communicate complex product benefits in practical business terms.

Working closely with executive leadership and an experienced technical support team, this person will help establish market presence, generate customer confidence, and create sustainable long-term growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Commercial Development
  • Develop and execute a regional business development strategy to grow market share throughout the United States.
  • Identify, qualify, and develop new business relationships with distributors, agricultural retailers, manufacturers, cooperatives, and large commercial customers.
  • Build and manage strategic customer relationships that generate repeat business and long-term partnerships.
  • Collaborate with leadership on pricing strategies, commercial agreements, and account planning.
  • Maintain an active sales pipeline while providing accurate forecasting and market reporting.
  • Territory & Market Development
  • Expand distribution coverage through strategic channel partnerships.
  • Develop territory plans based on crop segments, geographic opportunities, and seasonal market demands.
  • Support distributor onboarding, product launches, and customer education initiatives.
  • Monitor competitive activity, market trends, and customer feedback to help shape future commercial strategy.
  • Technical Sales Support
  • Partner with internal technical specialists to communicate product value and support customer success.
  • Coordinate product demonstrations, field evaluations, and customer trials.
  • Provide application guidance, product education, and ongoing customer support.
  • Communicate market feedback and customer needs to internal teams to support continuous product improvement.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with operations, customer service, logistics, finance, marketing, and supply chain teams to ensure a seamless customer experience.
  • Maintain CRM documentation, forecasting, and sales activity reporting.
  • Represent the organization at industry conferences, trade shows, customer meetings, and agricultural events.

What Success Looks Like During Your First Year:

  • Establish strong distribution relationships across targeted regions.
  • Convert product evaluations into repeat commercial business.
  • Build a healthy and predictable sales pipeline.
  • Develop customer success stories and market validation.
  • Establish consistent forecasting and reporting processes.
  • Become a trusted commercial resource within the biological crop technology market.

Qualifications:
Required-

  • Minimum of five years of B2B sales experience within agriculture or a closely related technical industry.
  • Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Agriculture, Biology, Chemistry, Agriculture Business, or another related discipline.
  • Demonstrated success developing new business and growing strategic customer relationships.
  • Strong consultative sales skills with the ability to explain technical products to both technical and commercial audiences.
  • Experience managing territories, developing sales plans, and maintaining a disciplined sales pipeline.
  • Willingness to travel extensively throughout the United States.
  • Valid driver's license and passport.

Preferred:

  • Experience with biological crop inputs, plant nutrition, specialty crop technologies, sustainable agriculture, crop protection, or related products.
  • Familiarity with agricultural distribution channels and commercial sales models.
  • Experience supporting field demonstrations, customer evaluations, or product validation programs.
  • Understanding of North American agricultural markets and seasonal sales cycles.
  • Knowledge of distributor pricing, rebate programs, or channel development strategies.

What We're Looking For:

The ideal candidate enjoys building something from the ground up and is energized by developing new markets rather than managing an established territory. They are comfortable balancing technical discussions with commercial conversations and have the credibility to build relationships with distributors, growers, agronomists, and other industry partners.

We're looking for someone who is naturally curious, highly self-directed, and motivated by the opportunity to help establish a growing business within an evolving segment of the agricultural industry.

Ideal experience includes biological crop inputs, biostimulants, plant nutrition, specialty fertilizers, crop protection, biologicals, agronomy, crop science, sustainable agriculture, agricultural technology (AgTech), field trials, product demonstrations, distributor development, agricultural retail, technical sales, consultative selling, channel management, and business development within the agricultural industry. Experience with seaweed extracts, algae-based technologies, plant health products, soil health, microbials, inoculants, or related biological crop technologies is highly desirable.
