A machinist will operate manually controlled and computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine tools such as lathes and milling machines, to cut and produce precision parts for machines, instruments, and tools. They control the machinery that produces the speed and cuts to create a specific part. The machinist will also be responsible for performing basic maintenance on the machines and replacing dull or aged parts as necessary.
Essential Duties
- Plans for each day's machining by studying blueprints, engineering plans, and materials.
- Analyzes information and finds the best solutions to problems.
- Programs CNC mills and lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points.
- Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling, and thread-chasing operations.
- Adhering to safety procedures and regulations to ensure safe operations.
- Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance.
- Continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions in our internal electronic system.
- Confers with engineers, production, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
Qualifications
- Ability to operate and program CNC mills or lathe.
- Proficient computer and technical skills.
- Ability to read blueprints.
- Detail oriented.
- Team player.
- Self-starter.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Have a valid driver's license.
- Experience operating CNC mills and lathes in a production environment.
Physical Demands
The individual will regularly be required to stand. The individual will frequently be required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The individual will occasionally be required to sit; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The individual must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this role include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
